SCANDALAZ
Every now and then, a young multi-talented, modernizer pops
on the hip-hop scene. This time he's Scandalaz.
Kevin was born in East St. Louis, IL in the mid 80's; but he
was predominately raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Like
most of us, some of his best years were in elementary school
where he found a love for basketball, girls, and being
popular, which due to his charming personality, that came
easily. It wasn't until his freshman year of high school
that he discovered his hidden talent. Normally, he would
watch and listen to others rap, but this time he decided to
give it a try. Once that tongue started rolling, he couldn't
stop flowing. He competed in several freestyle battles and
gained a reputation for ripping other MC's. Kevin could
leave a crowd mesmerized and the opposition showing him much
love.
Due to the flooding of compliments, about a year later,
Kevin knew that if he focused on polishing his skills,he
could offer something new and unique to the game of hip-hop.
With this in mind, he started humbling himself at this early
stage. Unlike middle school, in high school, he's not Mr.
Popularity. Kevin keeps to himself so he can stay focused on
what's really important like making the grades, graduating,
looking out for his two sisters and beginning his career in
music. He tries very hard to stay away from smoking,
drinking, gangbanging, and creating enemies, things of which
so many of his peers have become victim. He figures his
struggle is hard enough, why make it harder? Everyday that
passes, the struggle of his family not being able to live
the life they work so hard to live fuels him with the
ambition to make things happen. With plans to get a national
distribution deal to get his family out of the ghetto, he's
not depepending only on his skills to pave the way. That's
why it's so important to him to continue his education.
Inspired by several industry heavyweights like the Ruff
Ryder Camp, Nas, Jigga, Biggie, and Eminem, he also finds
inspriation from upcoming rap acrobats such as Tigger Child,
Storm & Stone, and B.A.B.Y.B.O.Y. Scandalaz represents a
style that can be felt. He's hardcore, street, and raps
about some of the wildest things in life, but his flip side
appeals to the sensitivity of the women.
The cards Scandalaz where given to play are filled with the
unpleasant daily tales of life. Murder, kidnapping,
penitentiary chances, and fear of facing hell are just a few
of the lessons that define his reality. The way he plans to
win the war is not to fall victim. He decides to write and
testify about the life surrounding him. "Although, I choose
not to participate in the comings and goings on around me,
it's still my reality. It's a cold game out here and this
world is scandalous. I'm not afraid to spit about it. So in
my eyes, my name comes from what the world has become;
Scandalaz. I don't condone it; but we all know it's reality
and I won't sugarcoat life." Listening to some of the lyrics
that come out of Scandalaz's mouth, it doesn't have to be
sugarcoated for you to know it's sweet!
