█ █ In case you did not know, in Finland plutonium is orange. █ █
█ █ Or isnÆt it? Well, at least there is a band over there █ █
█ █ called Plutonium Orange. After ten years this band finally █ █
█ █ put out their debut album, æVolumeÆ. Melodic stoner metal, █ █
█ █ they describe their music and it must be said: it is hard █ █
█ █ to find descriptions more out of place. If this is stoner, █ █
█ █ the latest Marillion is stoner as well. Marillion is █ █
█ █ mentioned for a reason, beacause singer Samuli LiekkinenÆs █ █
█ █ voice resembles that of Fish - former singer of Marillion. █ █
█ █ For me that is not really a recommendation. Both Fish and █ █
█ █ Liekkinen have their moments, but for the most part I find █ █
█ █ them very irritating. Plutonium does not make stoner metal, █ █
█ █ but a form of squeaky-clean powerpop, background choirs █ █
█ █ included. █ █
█ █ Anyway, letÆs leave the namegame for what it is, and have a █ █
█ █ look at what is on offer on æVolumeÆ. It is much of the █ █
█ █ same. The nine tracks on the album sound alike and after █ █
█ █ track three it becomes boring. These songs can be called █ █
█ █ radiofriendly, but there are few stations still playing █ █
█ █ alternative guitarmusic. What Plutonium Orange resembles █ █
█ █ most is a tame mix of Anathema (after they stopped being █ █
█ █ doom) with punkpop as made by Weezer and Green Day. But █ █
█ █ with a very special singer whose voice you either like or █ █
█ █ despise. There is no compromise. However, the greatest █ █
█ █ problem of the cd is not the singer but the complete and █ █
█ █ utter meaninglessness of the music. There are no catchy █ █
█ █ tunes at all, you have forgotten them the moment you hear █ █
█ █ them. There are moments that such musical wallpaper can be █ █
█ █ useful, to get rid of unwanted silence, but so much of that █ █
█ █ kind of music has already been made. No reason to buy █ █
█ █ Plutonium Orange for it. █ █
