Release Notes :

Well just in time for the release of their latest EP æHudson SquareÆ (out now on
Exploited) we have an interview with Homework. Having released EPs with Made to
Play and Exploited, they have been touted by many Djs such as Round Table
Knights and Shir Khan as their favourite up and coming artists, this EP really
does show their promise. ItÆs their first EP of the year and wow theyÆve really
started the year with a bang. The EP features more of a classic house sound,
which fits perfectly with æHudson SquareÆsÆ more disco-ey vibe. A very different
sound to their first two EPs æTrumpet ExpressÆ and æFissa TuneÆ, but either way
WE LOVE IT! ThereÆs also a limited edition viynl being released on Friday 18th
Feb.

TRPD: Please tell us a bit about yourselves and where you grew up?

HMWK: We are Homework and we are comprised of Tom Waist and Zip Stolk. Born and
raised in Amsterdam and spawned in the hell fires of Motown.

TRPD: How was Homework formed?

HMWK: We met in snobby Amsterdam record store Concerto, where we both worked for
some odd years. Lavishing ourselves to the amazing collection of music there,
from freak folk and 90?s hiphop to Womack & Womack and Ennio Morricone.

TRPD: How would you describe the Homework sound?

HMWK: The Homework sound isà a playful amalgam of anything and everything that
inspires us. Because of our versatile musical upbringing at Concerto, that can
literally be anything. ItÆs hard to pigeonhole our sound, but itÆs all about,
for lack of a better word, the æright grooveÆ.

TRPD: What were/are your influences in music and in life in general?!

HMWK: As said, we get inspired by a lot of different cats. Moodymann, Larry
Levan, Jeff Mills, come to mind. And more recently: Jamie Jones, the Wolf + Lamb
crew, Seth Troxler, etc. But weÆre also very much into other artsy adventures
besides music. Such as good steaks and sushi.

TRPD: You guys have been touted by many producers and djs to watch out for in
2011, what do you have in store for us this year?

HMWK: In February our new ep on Exploited will hit the web and will also be
released on limited edition (250) vinyl. There will also be a one-off on Riva
StarrÆs label Snatch! Records. There are some plans, but those have to remain
secret at the moment.

TRPD: What is your most memorable release to date?

HMWK: Even though our Fissa Tune EP was the one that katapulted us onto the
international house scene, the new ep on Exploited might just be our most
favorite. It takes a different approach to house music and is exactly what we
want to be known for.

TRPD: Who are your favourite producers at the moment? Why?

HMWK: Jamie Jones, Art Department, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Deniz Kurtel, Nina
Kraviz, Maya Jane Coles, Round Table Knights, Andre Crom & Martin Dawson, and
many more that donÆt immediately come to mind. All because they approach house
music in a way that is both a tribute to the past and at the same time very much
from/in the present.

TRPD: WeÆve recently just interviewed Worthy when he was in London playing with
you at Counter Culture, we tried contacting you then as well, but couldnÆt find
contact details. That was your London debut, playing in a big venue like that
your first time must not have been bad! How was it?

HMWK: We were very impressed by Counter Culture, because it was both very big
but also quite intimate in a way. There werenÆt that many people that night.
Believe it was on a Thursday. But the vibe was great. Was great meeting Worthy,
good guy with a very nice dry sense of humor.

TRPD: Which kind of venues do you prefer? Intimate or massive?

HMWK: It all depends on the crowd, but usually the more intimate locations fit
the vibe that we wish to emit the best. We always say that there is something
æwarmÆ about our sound and that warmth is best expressed in more confined
spaces.

TRPD: Any venues which you would particularly like to play in London?

HMWK: No venues in particular, really. We would just love to return to London;
any place will do.

TRPD: Finally please tell us a bit more about your release æHudson SquareÆ EP
which has just dropped on Monday?

HMWK: It is a release with a very broad sound. ThereÆs some more housey joints
and Hudson Square itself, the title track, has a great deal of disco funk in it.
The whole release is our way of expressing our love for the more oldskool sound,
but funnily enough that also meant this has become our most mature release to
date. We hope the party people will be pleased by it. The response from fellow
producers and djÆs is just stunning and very flattering.

TRPD: Thanks!

HMWK: Our pleasure.
