D'Cuckoo fuses traditional and futuristic approaches into a
highly personalized performance style. This women's ensemble
mixes African choral and Asian harmonic influences with pop
and funk backbeats and arrangements, as well as hip-hop and
rock tinges. Their cover of The Rolling Stones' "Ruby
Tuesday" and the vocals and harmonies on "Galiciad," "Yemana"
and the title track reflect their ability to credibly handle
diverse material with spirit and enthusiasm. This is
certainly different from conventional pop, but has enough
familiar elements to keep things from becoming too esoteric.
