For their 55th release End Recordings A&R supremo Mr C brings
together the label heads of Matter:/Form and Laus Records for a truly
international tech house collaboration.
Haris Custovic hails originally from Dubrovnik in Croatia. A trained
classical musician he caught the electronic music bug in the late
eighties, quickly abandoning a promising classical career in his
native country to pursue the underground electronic music scene at
its heart, in London. In a few short years he became In House
Engineer for Swag Records, before switching roles to manage his own
label. That label, Laus Records, is now one of the most respected
underground labels operating in house music today - with releases
from Terry Francis, Richard Grey, Asad Rizvi, Dave Mothersole, Jay
Tripwire, David Duriez & Colin Dale amongst others.
By contrast New Yorker Francis Harris' route to production came
through his involvement in the NYC club scene. With regular
appearances at clubs Centro Fly and ARC Francis is a guiding force in
the New York tech-house scene. His "Overboard" boat parties are
legendary and attract some of the biggest names in DJing today
including Richie Hawtin, Layo & Bushwacka!, Mr C and Darren Emerson.
This hands on involvement in the NY scene soon led to the setting up
of his own label, Matter:/Form - with releases from Eddie Richards,
Mazi (aka Audio Soul Project), Derek Marin, Alpha Male and The End's
own, Mr C.
They debut for End Recordings with the bass heavy electronic workout,
Sense of Sense. The track delivers beautifully structured beats mixed
with darting synth stabs, eerie vocal snatches and, most importantly,
a pulsing, throbbing bassline. As proved by The End Sound System,
Sense Of Sense will keep the crowds going strong at any time of
night.s
Flip over for the AA side, Can't Dance. Here the guys understanding
of a well built tune is no less apparent, replacing the tribal-tech
beats of the A side for a break lick loop this will undoubtedly leave
you (and the crowd!) craving for more. The rumbling bass line sweeps
through vocal breakdowns and melodies which punch up over a rough
riding bass to create a track which just cannot be ignored!!
