Bringing a slice of South America to life in Leeds, our favourite
Argentine residents Silver City deliver their best work to date in
the shape of their new EP Say Hi. The main mix features the
previously undiscovered (at least to 2020!) vocal talents of one half
of the Silver City team, Fernando Pulichino. Sounding like Shaun
Ryder at his best, with a South American rasp Fernando's vocals bring
a rock-style edge to the track, which firmly stamps it with both
originality and style.
Having toured this summer playing at some of the best clubs and
festivals in Europe with 2020Vision's new live act 2020Soundsystem,
the guy's have picked up some great live experience which is obvious
in this production. Fernando injects the track with his funk-fuelled
bass lines and Julian adds his sharp keyboard talents into the mix.
You only have to listen to Say Hi to hear the reproduction of live
energy onto vinyl.
The trademark loud and solid Silver City beats are in full effect,
with a slinky bongo chop riding on top them, Fernando's now legendary
bass carries the track into even funkier pastures with Julian's live
guitar riffs adding an extra dimension. The Dub mix combines all
these features for a stunning Silver City classic, but the vocals
take it to the next level. This is proper house music written by two
ôproperö musicians on top of their game.
"Starchild" isn't a cover version of the Level 42 classic - but
there's an idea! It's another wicked track from the Silver City
arsenal leaving the hypnotic bass-line running through your head long
after youÆve left the dancefloor. Any DJ worth his salt will track
this tasty b-side down.
