    ▓        This was Deniece Williams introduction to the                ▓
    ▓        national charts as a solo artist. Under the direction        ▓
    ▓        of Maurice White and Charles Stepney, much of this           ▓
    ▓        production has Earth, Wind & Fire undertones and             ▓
    ▓        that's a good thing. The featured release was the            ▓
    ▓        number two Billboard R&B single "Free." With its             ▓
    ▓        symphonic intro, rhythmic beat and cooing background         ▓
    ▓        vocals, Williams cradles the affectionate number with        ▓
    ▓        her gracefully flowing soprano. The second and only          ▓
    ▓        other release was the "Cause You Love Me Baby."With          ▓
    ▓        its delightful, melodic structure, the former                ▓
    ▓        Lovelites member (known then as Deniece Chandler)            ▓
    ▓        embraces the lyric with such warmth and beauty. The          ▓
    ▓        EW&F influence is manifested on the inspirational            ▓
    ▓        "Watching Over," "It's Important to Me" and "Slip            ▓
    ▓        Away." Deniece Williams gives a vocal workshop with          ▓
    ▓        her precision and agility. As all the selections are         ▓
    ▓        credible, "That's What Friends Are For" and "If You          ▓
    ▓        Don't Believe" are two meaningful numbers that               ▓
    ▓        blossom with love and understanding.                         ▓
