The ten tracks that make up 'Ghostclocks', the
debut full-length album from Blood Command,
collects five new tracks and five that appeared on
previous EPs 'Five Inches Of A Car Accident' and
'Party All The Way To The Hospital', the title
tracks of both appearing on this great debut.
And the greatest thing about Blood Command? They
don't really sound like anyone else. They have
fashioned a sound that fuses hardcore, punk and
synth-led new wave and coated it in huge brush
strokes of melody that have stained the inside of
my head for weeks.
Album opener 'Art For The Sake Of Art', with the
vocals of Silje Tombre threatening to smash glass,
is possibly the most noisy of a great bunch -
'Double T n' Tokyo' where the boys threaten to
take over the vocals excepted - though still
punctured with barbs of melody, barbs that
completely enshroud 'Incorporate Use Of Cloak &
Dagger' (yes, the album is full of these
impressive song titles!), 'On And On Chameleon'
and 'Alarm All Assassins', making them sound like
glorious 80s new wave singles awash in this
century. All forced through a patented
Coolasfuckometer, of course.
Blood Command, although threatening, never allow
their hardcore identity to slip totally from view,
with the album's title track being the ultimate
proof - another great song, originally slated for
inclusion on the next album from Jeroan Drive, the
other band of BC's Yngve Andersen, I believe.
While the pop sensibilities that swarm over the
heavy guitar of the record make the band quite
like no other, they also make this record a
somewhat surprising must-listen-to release. I can
do nothing but highly recommend this album ... and
then play it again.
