▄▀░████▓░▀║ yet be those who wish to know whether it's worth ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ it's price tag (although the vast majority I ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ suspect will have been bought by die hard Burzum ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ fans who feel its purchase is warranted simply by ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ virtue of its existence...). ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ There are eight tracks on Ragnarok, and though ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ two of which are available on other CDs ("Et ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Hvitt Lys Over Skogen" and "Duet With Mayhem" ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ which feature on the Misanthrope label ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ compilation and the Mayhem/Dark Throne Split, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ respectively) they have never been previously ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ released under the Burzum name.The rest of the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ material is made up of instrumental demos and ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ previously-unavailable-on-CD music. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ The compilation kicks off with the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ aforementioned, semi-unreleased "Et Hvitt Lys ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Over Skogen." This is an excellent song: good old ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ fashioned early Burzum just like Varg used to ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ make on his first two albums. It's a relatively ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ lengthy one too - and if you don't already own it ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ it's worth the price of the CD. The next 4 tracks ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ are demos ('Lost Wisdom', 'Spell of Destruction', ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ 'Channeling The Power of Souls Into A New God' ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ and 'Outro') and aside from being interesting ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ pieces of Burzum's history they're also pretty ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ damn fine variations on the familiar songs. They ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ don't sound great, but they don't sound horrible ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ by any means, and have the personality of a ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ bands/musicians early material that gives them ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ that slightly more personal touch. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Track 7 is the lengthier and far better version ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ of 'A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit' from the Aske ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ EP; track 8 is the 'duet' with Mayhem which is ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ nothing more than Varg and the Mayhem guys ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ drunkenly screaming out a song about how "all the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ leetle berds are seenging" which was used as the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ original outro to 'Deathcrush' in its demo form - ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ later ommited from its release as the Deathcrush ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ EP. Interesting, but only once. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Finally 'Havamal' (translated to mean 'Words of ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Odin'); which is Sveinbjorn Beinteinsson, head of ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ the Asatru religion - died in 1993; singing ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ accompanied by Burzum's haunting 'Han Som Reiste' ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ from the Det Som Engang Var album. Again ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ interesting; and certainly very moving if you ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ happen to be Asa faithful I'm sure, but to the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ rest of us with a mere musical interest in this ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ revived Viking religion it's just an old man ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ singing rather badly over one of Varg's less ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ outstanding keyboard tracks. If the same piece ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ was being sung by Grutle 'Enslaved' Kjelsson it ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ would be excellent, but I'm afraid to say this ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ aged Viking simply cannot sing well. That's what ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ decrepitude does to you. But this track aside, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
