▄▀░████▓░▀║ CD). The playing is as elegant and meticulous as ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ one could ask for. I was smitten with this ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ recording one lovely fall afternoon at a record ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ store in San Francisco and purchased it on the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ spot. It embodies the baroque spirit, calling ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ forth elegance and style with due attention to ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ornament and dynamic energy. It is joyful and ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ rewarding. Marriner achieves exquisite balance ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ and pays scrupulous attention to detail. Alan ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Loveday is a superb soloist: never mannered or ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ shy, overwrought or overly showy. His Four ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Seasons is one for the ages. Considering the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ vintage of the recording, the sound is absolutely ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ lovely. Around the year 2000, Giuliano Carmignola ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ issued his revolutionary rendition and everything ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ changed. Kennedy and Mutter made new recordings ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ of the Seasons, apparently capitalizing on what ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Carmignola had done. It is delightful to have ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ such an emphatic and passionate version as that ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ one, which is plainly legitimate as well as ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ compelling. But once the smoke has cleared and ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ the winter ice storms have subsided, the Italian ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ sun will shine with renewed splendor in this ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ recording, which has only endeared itself to me ║▀░▓████░▀▄
