Another HOT Release from aAF!
Leaving Rouge's self-titled debut is a collection of
songs that, without repeating itself, journeys through
several portraits of what it's like to fall apart and
put the pieces back together. Songs venture from the
sparsest of Leonard Cohen-like acoustic numbers ("If
You'll Bend") to guitar-laden anthems that call to mind
the pathos of War-era U2 ("All Our Octobers") and the
rawness of Gentleman-era Afghan Whigs ("Autumn House
Fire"). Written in various Michigan attics, basements,
and warehouses, Leaving Rouge's debut is intimate and
desperate, relying on passion before perfection and
striving for a kind of purity that puts them at risk for
criticism. Fortunately, the performance is passionate
and direct enough to convince even the cynical listener
of the band's intention: to make music that feels like
something. After forming in 2001 as a studio project and
recording a demo with producer Dylan Mangierek (Mark
Kozelek, James Hindle, Paul Frazer) in San Francisco,
vocalist/guitarist Sean Hoen, in response to the buzz
about the demo, disbanded and reformed Leaving Rouge
three times (all the while performing and recording at
an incessant pace) in an attempt to perfect the group's
sound. As a result of performing with the likes of Bardo
Pond, the Mercury Program, Pele, Crooked Fingers,
Karate, and Rival Schools, the Detroit-area demand for a
proper release was overwhelming. Though Hoen had not
intended many of the band's recording sessions for
release, he teamed up with producer Dave Feeney (P.W.
Long, Majesty Crush), remixing and re-recording the
demos. Ex-His Name is Alive drummer Kevin Callaway
joined the group and helped finish the project. The
result is the self-titled debut, a 10-song collection of
powerful, brooding, unalike songs that often shift in
mood and texture, yet remain graceful and consistently
deny a stylistic pigeonhole. The release exposes the
band's love of The Cure's Disintegration-era single-line
guitar melodies ("Speaks as a Savior"), the
Replacements' drunken soul ("Thank You Birds"), Joy
Division's starkness ("One Dream or Another"), all the
while having an identity that is explicitly personal and
difficult to categorize. Though some would contend that
Leaving Rouge's self-titled debut is less an album than
a collection, what matters is that the ten songs
included on the release have a life of their own.
Perhaps Pitchfork Magazine's Timothy Dolan said it best
when he wrote, "Leaving Rouge's music can make one feel
as though they're once again in their first car blaring
songs that mean something, with something at risk and a
road ahead that leads somewhere uncertain and
unimportant-because it's the drive and the music, after
all, that really matters

year music.Well since that time we have been rocking the
scene with classic rock rips.We have made classic music
mainstream in the scene and have been on top in that area as
the number one group in classic rips. We finished 2001 with
3800 rips.As we moved forward in 2002 we found we were also
releasing alot of quality 2k2 rips and saw that we were competing
in that area.In 2002 we finished with over 5000 rips.In 2003 we
plan to move forward and continue to release "THE NEW STUFF" and
strive to be on top in 2k3 rips.We will also continue to remain
