█ █▓ name is perfectly reflective of his █▓ █
█ █▓ or her music. While a name is not █▓ █
█ █▓ always everything, it can certainly █▓ █
█ █▓ help, particularly for new █▓ █
█ █▓ listeners. The same goes for cover █▓ █
█ █▓ art, but thatÆs a topic for a █▓ █
█ █▓ different conservation. Robot Koch █▓ █
█ █▓ makes exactly the type of music one █▓ █
█ █▓ might expect. ItÆs filled with █▓ █
█ █▓ glitchy samples, stuttering beats, █▓ █
█ █▓ heavy bass, and plenty of █▓ █
█ █▓ originality. WhatÆs refreshing is █▓ █
█ █▓ that û unlike a robot û KochÆs art █▓ █
█ █▓ has a pulse. And while Death Star █▓ █
█ █▓ Droid isnÆt for everyone, itÆs a █▓ █
█ █▓ strong debut from a producer whoÆs █▓ █
█ █▓ already built quite a reputation. █▓ █
█ █▓ █▓ █
█ █▓ Before dropping his first effort, █▓ █
█ █▓ KochÆs resume was filled with █▓ █
█ █▓ remixes and productions for other █▓ █
█ █▓ artists, ranging from Dabrye to █▓ █
█ █▓ Amanda Blank. The rest of his time █▓ █
█ █▓ is split between touring with his █▓ █
█ █▓ group Jahcoozi and DJing clubs █▓ █
█ █▓ across the globe. Koch then █▓ █
█ █▓ obviously chose recording over █▓ █
█ █▓ sleeping as he began plugging away █▓ █
█ █▓ at his own project. Death Star █▓ █
█ █▓ Droid represents the culmination of █▓ █
█ █▓ more than nine years in the █▓ █
█ █▓ industry. █▓ █
█ █▓ █▓ █
█ █▓ And you can tell that Koch put his █▓ █
█ █▓ all into this record, as itÆs every █▓ █
█ █▓ bit cohesive as it is finely-tuned. █▓ █
█ █▓ Every drum hit, analog synthesizer █▓ █
█ █▓ blip, and vocal sample sounds █▓ █
█ █▓ crisp. Even better, they are all █▓ █
█ █▓ expertly layered, making for a █▓ █
█ █▓ smooth listen no matter how jarring █▓ █
█ █▓ and, at times, repetitive some of █▓ █
█ █▓ his music can get. For example, █▓ █
█ █▓ ôMemoriesö plays like a caffeinated █▓ █
█ █▓ Flying Lotus track. The simplistic █▓ █
█ █▓ and bass-heavy percussion in █▓ █
█ █▓ FlyLoÆs music is there. But the █▓ █
█ █▓ track is amped up by Koch, who █▓ █
█ █▓ weaves in female vocal samples and █▓ █
█ █▓ a bouncier pace made for █▓ █
█ █▓ sweat-drenched dancers. Another █▓ █
█ █▓ instant highlight is the █▓ █
█ █▓ title-track, which opens the album █▓ █
█ █▓ with fuzzy synths and schizophrenic █▓ █
█ █▓ drums. Aside from its gripping █▓ █
█ █▓ qualities, ôDeath Star Droidö █▓ █
█ █▓ absolutely sets the pace for the █▓ █
█ █▓ next nine tracks. █▓ █
█ █▓ █▓ █
█ █▓ Perhaps most indicative of KochÆs █▓ █
█ █▓ style is his take on the famous █▓ █
█ █▓ Doors cut ôPeople Are Strangeö. He █▓ █
█ █▓ and vocalist Graciela Maria throw █▓ █
█ █▓ the creepy, yet somewhat fun vibe █▓ █
█ █▓ of the original out the window. In █▓ █
█ █▓ its place is a chilling, throbbing █▓ █
█ █▓ collage of gorgeous sounds. And █▓ █
█ █▓ therein resides what might also █▓ █
█ █▓ drive some listeners away. KochÆs █▓ █
█ █▓ robotic tendencies will no doubt be █▓ █
█ █▓ too difficult, too out there for █▓ █
█ █▓ some to digest. But those who █▓ █
█ █▓ venture outside their comfort zones █▓ █
█ █▓ are sure to embrace his ability to █▓ █
█ █▓ create music that is both isolating █▓ █
